Chile dominates in the global unbleached sulphate pulp trade. In 2014, Chile exported 441 thousand tonnes of unbleached sulphate pulp totaling 298 million USD, 6% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was China, where it supplied 28.4% of its total unbleached sulphate pulp exports in value terms, accounting for 25.7% of Chinese total imports.
Overall, the global unbleached sulphate pulp trade reached to 1,084 million USD, with a CAGR of 1.3% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it showed a decline, falling from 1,907 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 1,760 thousand tonnes in 2014.
In 2014, China (27.7%), the Republic of Korea (11.2%), Thailand (.6%), the U.S. (7.1%) and Germany (6.2%) were the leading destinations of unbleached sulphate pulp imports, together making up 60.9% of global imports. The share of Thailand increased (+2 percentage points), while the share of China illustrated negative dynamics (-6 percentage points).
Chile and the Russian Federation were among the other main global suppliers of unbleached sulphate pulp in 2014 with a combined share of 43.2% of global exports. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Sweden (+11.1% per year) and China (+30.5% per year). Chile significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure, from 20% in 2007 to 28% in 2014.
