Its primary trading partner was Canada, where it supplied 95% of its total trailer and semi-trailer exports in value terms, accounting for the lion’s share of Canada’s total imports.
In 2014, Canada (57%) was the leading destination of trailer and semi-trailer imports, followed by the Netherlands (7%), France (6%), Norway (3%) and Sweden (2%). These five leaders together made up 75% of global imports. The share of Canada increased significantly (+14 percentage points), while the share of France illustrated negative dynamics (-5 percentage points).
Germany and the United Kingdom were among the other main global suppliers of trailers and semi-trailers in 2014 with a combined share of 25% of global exports. Europe occupies 34% of the global trailer and semi-trailer exports. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were China (+27% per year) and the Netherlands (+14% per year). The U.S. significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure, from 45% in 2007 to 59% in 2014.
