The U.S. took the second spot in the global electric accumulator trade. In 2014, the U.S. exported 502 thousand tonnes of electric accumulators totaling 1,975 million USD, 10% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Canada, where it supplied 40.7% of its total electric accumulator exports in value terms, accounting for 92% of Canada’s total imports.
From 2007 to 2014, the U.S. was a net importer of electric accumulators. Over this period, imports slightly exceeded exports in value terms. However, from 2011 to 2014, in physical terms, exports slightly exceeded imports.
China and Germany were among the other main global suppliers of electric accumulators in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were the U.S. (+7.6% per year) and Thailand (+9.7% per year). By virtue of this, the U.S. was able to strengthen its position in the global export structure.
In 2014, the U.S.’s top 5 trading partners were Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, the Dominican Republic and China, with a combined 64.9% share of U.S. electric accumulator exports. The share of the Netherlands increased modestly (+4.7 percentage points), while the share of Canada illustrated negative dynamics (-6.4 percentage points).
