After chalking up exceptional export numbers in 2014, China was once again able to claim dominance in the global chandelier trade. In 2014, China exported 306 thousand tonnes of chandeliers totaling 8.1 billion USD, a spectacular 59% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was the U.S., where it supplied 15.7% of its total chandelier exports in value terms, accounting for 36.9% of the United States’ total imports.
From 2007 to 2014, China was a net exporter of chandeliers. In this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. The difference in physical terms was even more pronounced.
Mexico and Germany were among the other main global suppliers of chandeliers in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporter from 2007 to 2014 was China (+23.5% per year). With this level of growth, China significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure.
In 2014, China’s top 5 trading partners were the U.S., Malaysia, Singapore, Germany and Iran, with a combined 40.3% share of China’s chandelier exports. The share of Malaysia increased significantly (+7.5 percentage points), while the share of the U.S. dropped sharply (-15.6 percentage points).
