Genesee Watch Co. launched a collection of vintage inspired chronograph pilot watches on Kickstarter which has received great support from backers. The campaign started with a goal of $12,500 USD and has already raised an amount of more than $9,000 USD.
The affordable and stylish watches have become quite popular among the demanding collectors who have backed up the campaign by pre ordering the watches at early bird prices.
Genesee Watch Co. is a US based company who has created these watches with an emphasis on quality and design. They have kept the pricing affordable by cutting down the cost of distribution by bringing the product directly to the consumer at a small mark up.
The watches are a fusion of vintage trends and contemporary design along with best in class components used in its manufacturing. These aviator watches have been quite popular among pilots due to their large dials and cases, making them easier to read.
These watches can be worn on a daily basis versus their vintage counterparts which measured up to 60mm. The dimensions of the GWC pilot watches are a comfortable 44.5mm while keeping the overall look of traditional pilot watches which is one of the reasons backers are going gaga over the unique design.
The watches have been crafted to make the dials more readable while the over sized onion crown leads to easy operation in setting the time and date. The fixed lugs on the watch allow the wearer to change straps without using special tools or movable parts.
At present, the stainless steel cases are available in matte silver and black PVD finish. After attaining the stretch goals, more options will be introduced such as a different case finish, dial colors, and straps.
The diameter of the case is 44.5 mm without the crown and 49.1mm with the crown. The dials are marked with Arabic numerals making it easier to read while the ZULU straps are made of genuine leather or canvas.
The backers will have an option to choose the strap color, case color, and dial color combination by the end of the campaign. The back of the watch is engraved with the company logo.
Once the campaign has ended successfully, the production will start in May 2016 and the shipping will start in mid August to the early backers.
