Educated at University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Dr. Holguin completed an internship at Jackson South Community Hospital, a residency at Waterbury Hospital, and a fellowship at Jackson South Community Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a professional member of the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.

Dr. Holguin attributes his success to great mentors and great training, particularly his fellowship training with the first doctor to do laparoscopic surgery. When not assisting patients, he reads the Journal of the American Medical Association and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons to stay up-to-date in his field.
