Francesca Zappitelli documentary explores the world of women’s wrestling

Ballerina I’m Not has been scheduled for release this month

Written and directed by Francesca Zappitelli, the exhilarating, inspirational doc Ballerina I’m Not releases on VOD (Amazon) on October 16.

Zappitelli says the film is an underground, underdog story of the prolific journey that women take to follow their dreams and find their way in a male dominated fight industry.

“The progress women have made in wrestling and the fight world is something to marvel at”, the actress and filmmaker said in a recent interview. “In the 1950’s women weren’t legally permitted to fight in stadiums along side men. To now, in the present day women are the top grossing main event in the UFC. I hope as women transcend in one field, it empowers and encourages women to branch out in other sectors where they are still a minority.”

Ballerina I’m Not features a who’s who of the wrestling world including Stacy Keibler, Gail Kim,  Maria Kanellis and Francesca herself.

“I love how all the women, Stacy Kiebler, Shelly Martinez, Christie Ricci and Julie Ginther grow and evolve through their journey”.

Ballerina I’m Not is available on VOD October 16.
