Known for both classic and contemporary portraits of boxing icons like Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, and Evander Holyfield, Lynde Washington teases the viewers’ perceptions and expectations to recalibrate the familiar with the extraordinary. Washington’s works adorn the walls of many current and former professional athletes across the country. Recently, Washington unveiled a painting of the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Mike Tyson, to the boxing legend himself. This piece, titled “Human”, has also been signed by Tyson.
“Lynde’s paintings are so amazing to me and definitely one of kind,” Tyson said. “Keep doing your thing, Lynde. Much love.”
Since Lynde Washington is so dedicated to those that collect his art, only a small numbered of limited editions prints will be available. For this Mike Tyson “Human” piece, only 250 *Limited Edition* Giclee prints are being made of the original painting, complete with “Certificate of Authenticity”. About artist Lynde Washington:
Born in 1977 in Washington, D.C., Washington grew up with a football in one hand and a paintbrush in the other. After attending the University of Maryland on a full athletic scholarship, Washington was picked up by the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens. After the NFL, Washington pursued a career in the XFL and Arena Football League before deciding to pursue his passion of art full-time.
What differentiates Lynde Washington from other American artists is his focus on the diverse aspects of American culture and his interpretation of life growing up in the 1980s and the 1990s. Washington strives and succeeds to capture his generation, his sports background, and his heritage through the exciting, expressive, and bold works he creates. Rather than merely being fascinated by the human form, Washington is inspired by emotions, body language and movement. His style, sense of color, and attention to the moment is quickly being noticed by the art community.
