London, UK (July 28, 2014) — FanXT, a fantasy sport company, reported on its official blog that the President of United States of America, Barack Obama plays fantasy sport. The article is based on a video footage from Conan TV show where Conan O’Brien interviews sports writer Rick Reilly about how he played fantasy football (American) with the President of the United States (POTUS in short).
Fantasy sport is a game where participants own virtual sport teams, called fantasy teams that compete against other fantasy teams based on the statistics generated by professional players or teams of a professional sport.
Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA) reported that 42 million people age 12 and above in the U.S. and Canada played fantasy sports in 2014, based on sports properties like NFL, NBA, MLB, Nascar and NHL. According to a 2008 study by Ipsos, the number of British fantasy sports players aged 16 to 64 is estimated to range between 5.5 and 7.5 million. Of those, 80 percent of these players participate in fantasy soccer. For a global estimate, the official Fantasy Premier League game hosts over 3 million people over 200 countries every Premier League season.
Furthermore, Forbes.com interestingly reported that the estimated market value of fantasy football alone is $70 billion while statistics from Alexa shows that fantasy football websites are about 3 times more engaging (more pageviews per user and time on site) than popular sites like Yahoo, CNN or ESPN. The average fantasy sport player is mainly male, between the ages of 18 and 49 and boasts above average income and education levels – in other words, a marketer’s dream, as mentioned on Entrepreneur.com.
All these facts and figures show the popularity and economic impact fantasy sport has on our planet. Hence, it’s not surprising that busy politicians do spare some time out of their office tinkering with their fantasy team.
