It was the 2017 Malaysia Cup (Piala Malaysia 2017) that held on 4 November, at the Shah Alam Stadium which accommodates up to 80,000 people. MONSPACE is one of the sponsors of the event. Its founder and Group CEO Dato’ Sri Jessy Lai attended the match in person to show her support for the local football scene.
The Malaysia Cup is one of the oldest football matches in Malaysia. It first started in 1921, and has not failed to happen every year after that, save for during World War 2.
In 1921, the match was called the Malaya Gold Cup. Later in 1933 it was renamed to HMS Cup, and then in 1967, to commemorate the establishment of Malaysia in 1963, the match officially adopted the name “Malaysia Cup” till today.
The match commences yearly after the Malaysia Super League (MSL). Top 10 teams from the MSL and 4 others from the Malaysia Premier League (MPL) automatically qualifies for Malaysia Cup, while the next ranked 2 teams each from MSL and MPL compete for the remaining 2 spots.
After three months of gruelling competition, only “Southern Tigers” Johor Darul Ta’zim F.C. and “Red Eagles” Kedah FA are left standing. These two teams compete in the grand finals of the 2017 Malaysia Cup for the ultimate glory.
MONSPACE has always been attentive to the sports scene, and have on various occasions sponsor both local and international sports events. This time, the company hopes that our financial support for the 2017 Malaysia Cup will inspire more corporations and enterprises to turn their attention to the local sports scene. May our society care more, and do more for the future athletes of Malaysia.
And congratulation to JDT!
