Los Angeles, CA – September 11, 2018 –
“DEEP RED is a riveting thriller whose secrets carefully unravel via a series of carefully calibrated compositions that become not unlike virtual gateways into Freudian pasts,” wrote Slant Magazine.
DarkCoast reveals the re-mastered release of DEEP RED (aka Profondo Rosso, 1975), directed and written by Dario Argento, a true staple in horror entertainment history for his award-winning writing in Opera (1987) and Phenomena (1985), and of course, Suspiria (1977). Accompanied by Oscar-nominated writer for Fellini’s Casanova (1976), Bernardino Zapponi, DEEP RED is an Italian slasher film that will leave you at the edge of your seat until the very end.
“It would be fair to say that not only is it one of the finest horror/thrillers of the 1970s but also of all time,” wrote Flickering Myth.

After witnessing the murder of a famous psychic, an English pianist, Marcus, (David Hemmings) teams up with a reporter, Gianna Brezzi (Daria Nicolodi) to solve the deadly crime and find the killer. With very turn in the investigation, the two stumble upon a series of horrific murders, which all have the commonality of the killer’s uncomfortable and perplexing obsession with children’s toys and songs. Feeling the killer lurk in their shadows, the duo discovers the killer’s true target – Marcus. In more danger than before, will Marcus and Gianna be able to string the clues together and solve the crime before the killer strikes again?
Produced by Claudio Argento and Salvatore Argento, DEEP RED is a landmark thriller containing clever camerawork that creates a frenzy of suspense, a chilling score by Giorgio Gaslini and Goblin and the brutal and grotesque style from seen during the ‘70s Italian horror. Included in “Best Slasher Movies of All Time”, DEEP RED has “technical elements, death scenes, and all-encompassing greatness. Dario Argento’s Deep Red is a film you’d best save for last if you’re ever planning an Italian slasher movie catch-up marathon – starting with this one will just ruin everything that follows,” suggested Complex.
DEEP RED was originally released in the USA during June 1976. The Italian slasher was awarded the Medalla Sitges en Oro de Ley for Best Director (Dario Argento) at the 1976 Sitges – Catalonian International Film Festival and received the prestigious nomination for Best Score (Giorgio Gaslini) at the 1976 Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists.
DarkCoast has exclusively re-released DEEP RED to various online streaming platforms, including Hoopla, DirecTV, InDemand, iTunes, Fandango, Google Play, Vimeo on Demand, Vudu, Sling and Dish. Watch the re-mastered DEEP RED trailer here: https://bit.ly/2MlTNe6.
