Award-winning holiday exchange provider, DAE, is rolling out a new initiative in partnership with Youngcare that will turn holiday guests’ spare change into life-changing donations for young people in care around Australia.
The Spare Change initiative will be rolled out to DAE exchange Resorts over the coming months and will contribute to Youngcare’s goal of helping young people with high care needs to avoid admission into aged care, and live young lives.
“Through the Spare Change Initiative, we’ll be increasing awareness of the important work of Youngcare through our DAE exchange Resorts around Australia,” said CEO of DAE, Francis Taylor.
Envelopes will be placed in rooms at participating DAE exchange Resorts, encouraging guests to leave their spare change, in any currency, to help change a young life through their small donation.
“DAE has actively supported Youngcare for several years through fundraising at Australian Timeshare and Holiday Ownership Council (ATHOC) events,” said Mr Taylor.
“This new initiative will build a direct partnership between DAE and Youngcare, so that our efforts in supporting their worthy cause can be magnified.
“As a company that is devoted to giving our members the freedom to choose where in the world they want to go on their next holiday, we believe wholeheartedly that young people deserve to live life with choice, independence and dignity.”
Youngcare CEO, Samantha Kennerley thanked DAE for their generous ongoing support, and welcomed this unique opportunity to raise much-needed funds and awareness for young Aussies with high care needs.
“Youngcare is proud to partner with DAE, in our efforts to support young people between the ages of 18 to 65 still living at home at risk of entering aged care through the At Home Care Grants program,” said Mrs Kennerley.
“Every Youngcare At Home Care Grants round has been drastically oversubscribed, highlighting the enormous need that exists for better choice in care and accommodation for young Aussies with high care needs.
“Every cent makes all the difference between being forced into aged care or being able to remain at home with family or loved ones.”
The DAE and Youngcare Spare Change Initiative will be rolled out across participating resorts in the coming months.

Youngcare was established in 2005 following one woman’s battle to find relevant and dignified care. Currently over 7,000 young Australians (under the age of 65) with full-time care needs are living in aged care simply because there are few alternatives. There are also 700,000 more young Australians being cared for at home by family and friends, often with limited support. Youngcare’s work includes raising awareness and support for this issue across the nation, in order to drive change and create real choices for young Australians and their families.
They have set up the Youngcare Connect support and information hotline to provide support and information to those who need it most; At Home Care Grants so young people wishing to be cared for at home can receive the equipment, home modifications or respite they need; Youngcare housing; and undertaking research to more comprehensively understand the issues faced in care options.
