7PLIS is a line of French glasses created entirely from recycled wooden skateboard decks by three opticians whose hobbies include riding skateboards. They are light, customizable glasses that benefit the environment, look great and are durable and long-lasting. Now, the creators have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise production funds.
Florent Baraban, Hugo Falantin and Nicolas Marcel are opticians by profession but also enjoy skateboarding as a recreational sport. These young men had the idea to create durable, lightweight custom-made glasses from recycled skateboard decks and began working to craft unique works of art that would be stylish and useful.
“The colours on frames can be numerous and depend directly on the boards we receive from local professional and amateur riders,” notes Baraban. “A board is made of 7 folds or ‘plis’ in French, giving the glasses their name.” The glasses are made from maple wood and sport a variety of colors and shapes to suit every need. There are two sizes and five different designs available, and lenses are labelled “Made in France.” The glasses offer 100 percent UV protection with UV filter categories 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4. Each pair of glasses is engraved with a unique serial number, and includes a high-strength flexible hinge and a case made of hard wood as well as a soft cotton pouch.
As seen at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/405090585/7plis, the Kickstarter campaign offers pledge levels from €6 to €1,000, with prizes including wooden skateboard key chains, rings, cufflinks, tie clips, earrings and coasters.
For more information on specific prizes associated with various pledge levels, see the Kickstarter page.
