Ryan Bijan is a Texas filmmaker who has collaborated with clean water activist and professional tank inspector Ron Perrin of CleanWaterTankProject.com to create a new film about potable water storage tanks entitled Out of Sight, Out of Mind: What’s In Your Water? Now, Bijan has launched an IndieGoGo campaign to raise funds for the production of this project.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind explores the world of potable water tanks as used by municipalities and other agencies and the possible lack of inspection and cleaning that could lead to sickness or other problems for consumers. According to Bijan, “That tank, or tower, you drive by on a regular basis is the last stop before the water hits your faucet. A basic underwater camera inspection shows that some of these tanks haven’t been cleaned in years, which can lead to a considerable amount of sediment building up on the tank floors. Sediment can become a habitat for bacteria, protozoa and viruses, and can effectively hide them from treatment chemicals, such as chlorine. During warmer weather these microbes can emerge causing sickness, and in the most extreme cases, death.”
Out of Sight, Out of Mind: What’s in Your Water? is a documentary film in which microbiologists and tank inspection professionals discuss the lack of Environmental Protection Agency or EPA regulations requiring potable water storage tanks to be inspected and cleaned. Bijan hopes to raise awareness of the problems surrounding drinking water storage and to generate discussion that could lead to solutions.
