Chesterfield Hector, a London based photographer and inspired by iconic names in photography such as Richard Phibbs and Fadil Berisha, has announced that he has launched a funding campaign on Kickstarter for his project, Skin Tones – A Portrait Photography Art Book. The project was started a year ago although Chesterfield had developed this idea way back in 2012.
“I was keen to do a project that focused on beauty in various shades but didn’t have the experience to carry it out,” says Chesterfield Hector. The sudden loss of my mother not only devastated me but also made me realize the importance of chasing dreams. I have dedicated the book, Skin Tones – A Portrait Photography Art Book to the memory of my mother.”
Chesterfield zeroed in on this specific topic because he wants to show that beauty comes in several shades. It also helps in sending out a message that everyone, regardless of their race and color should be comfortable in their own skin. This project and its underlying message assume critical importance because of the increase in xenophobic attitudes in recent years. Politicians from across the world are known to drive a wedge between communities to achieve their narrow political objectives.
The book will feature around 30 to 40 models and most of them have been found by Chesterfield through agencies. He has also look up other resources through social media platforms and even on public transports. The idea is to make the book as diverse as possible by including models from various strata and background. Chesterfield has ensured that his dream project includes models that represent various skin and body types and age groups.
Chesterfield has chosen models after a long and careful process of testing them on various parameters. He has photographed lots of models for this project, and has selected only the best photos. Some of the shoots by the photographer hence might not make the cut.
According to Chesterfield Hector, the portrait photography art book will have a dust jacket and a total of 90 pages filled with stunning photographs. The pages will measure 20 X 25 cm. There will be no compromise on quality as the photographs will be printed on the best quality photo paper.
The passionate photographer has finished nearly 85 per cent shooting for photos for the book. He has shot substantial number of images for the book but want to capture more diversity in shapes, sizes as possible.
The pledged goal for the campaign is £4514 and the deadline is 3 October, 2017. The funding, if successful, will be used for production and shipping so that the book can be made, and hopefully marketed latest by December 2017.
