The Tragically Hip has announced their farewell tour “Man Machine Poem” which will visit Canadian venues this summer. Sadly, this tour will be the band’s final tour due to beloved band member, Gord Downie’s brain cancer diagnosis. Although, this is their final tour together, band members are excited to get a chance to get out there and see fans again, performing their great music and having a memorable time along the way. Their tour will start off at the end of July in Victoria, BC at the Save on Foods Memorial Centre and will head to ten Canadian cities during the summer.
The Tragically Hip formed over 30 years ago in 1984 by members who went to high school together in Kingston, Ontario. They got their name from a 1981 movie, Elephant Parts, and it has stuck with them ever since. Their first EP was released in 1987 after they signed with MCA and then they released their first album, Up to Here, in 1989. This first album has some of the most popular and famous songs of the band, including “New Orleans is Sinking” and “Blow at High Dough.” It was finally in 1992 when they released Fully Completely that they were able to hit the mainstream and grow some of their fan base beyond what they were already enjoying.
Their 2016 tour is in support of their new album Man Machine Poem which will be released on June 17, 2016. This is the band’s 14th album and diehard fans of this amazing group are looking forward to seeing their favorite band perform this summer.
