The BNP Paribas Open is one of the biggest tennis events of the year each season. This year the tournament began on Monday, March 7th and it will culminate on Sunday, March 20th from Indian Wells, CA, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. This year marks the 41st anniversary of the event for the men’s event and the 28th year for the women’s event and it is a joint event from the ATP World Tour and the WTA Tour, making it the fifth largest tennis tournament in the world.

Novak Djokovic and Simona Halep will look to defend their 2015 titles. Over the years, Djokovic and Federer have won the mens singles title four times. Federer won three straight from 2004-2006. Nadal has claimed the mens singles title three times. In men’s doubles the team of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan claimed the title two years in a row (2014-2015). In women’s singles, Maria Sharapova, Steffi Graf and Lindsay Davenport have all taken the title multiple times. In 2014, Flavia Pennetta from Italy won and in 2015 the winner was Simona Halep from Romania.
The Indian Wells Tennis Garden originally opened in 2000 and has been the site of this tournament since. Located in the Coachella valley of California, this tennis center features a 16,100 seat stadium court that will feature all the biggest matches of the 2016 tournament. There are also 11 match courts to showcase all the early round action and the venue is classified as the second largest tennis-only venues in the world.
