In an era where awards shows have become the musical equivalent of the Super Bowl or the Kentucky Derby, events like this have the attention of the entire nation. Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley traveled noticeably different paths to the top of the country music charts, but the duo has undeniable stage chemistry. This is the reason that they’ve hosted the show in tandem the past seven years, going on eight.
These awards are legitimately meaningful for many reasons. In the most obvious sense, the biggest awards are meant to honor and congratulate the major stars of country music, some of whom kept the genre relevant and in the hearts and minds of fans during thin times.
In another sense, some awards give fans a peek into the future, tipping off exactly which young, hopeful and talented stars may be touring the nation five or so years from now. It will not surprise anyone if Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line and other familiar names walk away with some of the most prestigious awards this year. But there are a number of question marks in other areas, all of which will be answered live in front of a packed house.
Underwood and Paisley will likely keep the night jovial and energetic. There are sure to be surprises that only folks in attendance will be able to experience, including all the interactions that go down while the millions of television viewers are watching commercials.
