Chambers Media & Co. Presents “CampuLately Poetry Jam.”

CampusLATELY Poetry Jam announces “Outspoken Bean” as the host of this year “CL Poetry Jam” in Texas, and also name Kanye West “The Black Collegiate Wordsmith.”

Houston, Texas – May 15th, 2017 – CL Poetry Jam is bringing back the culture of spoken word and poetry while introducing the rawness to college readers. The host for “CL Poetry Jam” is “Outspoken Bean” who will introduce 3-5 new poets monthly and feature one seasoned poet each episode.

CL Poetry Jam is paying homage to Russell Simmons, Def Poetry Jam which was a spoken word poetry television series hosted by Mos Def and aired on HBO between 2002 and 2007. CL Poetry Jam will initially air on CampusLATELY.com, YouTube, and all @campuslately social media channels.

CampusLATELY is also thrilled to announce naming Kanye West “The Black Collegiate Wordsmith.” Kanye West is a poet and a lyricist, featured on Def Poetry Jam several times. His early music was shaped by #Collegelife, #GreekLife, and #BlackCollegiateLife which in return helped to shape a generation and culture. Kanye West first album “The College Dropout” was one of the first albums to talk about black collegiate life and Greek life on a national platform.

The General Eligibility Requirements for CL Poetry Jam:

• Candidate must be in college (graduate or undergraduate).

• Video Presentation: All applicants must submit a 1-minute video showcasing their art and poetry:

• The videos will be evaluated on content, creativity, and execution.

• Videos are to be submitted using the CL Poetry Jam form (.wmv, .mov, and YouTube link).

It’s imperative for all candidates to note that the selected Finalists will be asked to sign a release form so that CampusLATELY; the organizer may feature the finalists’ videos on CL homepage.

About the Host

Emanuelee “Outspoken Bean” started performing spoken-word in 2005. In his senior year at Prairie View A&M, Bean also founded and coached the University’s first poetry slam team. He is a performance poet, writer, compassionate mentor, electrifying entertainer, and an educator. Bean travels the country performing his original works and inspiring creative minds.

That work ethic has taken him across many cities and states where he has inspired people from all walks of life to find and claim their voice. He is a 2011 Texas Poet Laureate nominee, ranked 9th in the Individual World Poetry Slam 2013, ranked 2nd in collaborative poetry at Group Piece Finals 2013 and, is ranked 11th at National Poetry Slam 2014 (both with Houston VIP).
