With only four albums to her credit since 2005, it would seem impossible that Underwood has such a long list of tours and performances to her name, and yet the many awards she has garnered prove that she is all about quality. She has won more than five Grammy Awards, more than a dozen Billboard awards, and scores of country music industry honors.
It was her debut album that featured the famous single “Before He Cheats”, which made her the highest selling female artist in country music history, but that album debuted so well because of her success as the winner on televisions top musical competition program, “American Idol”. Underwood was the winner of the 2005 season, making her well known to far more than just country music audiences. By the time she was ready to release a studio album, fans around the world were ready to hear what she had to offer.
A native of Oklahoma, she was performing by the age of three and had focused her attention on a career in journalism rather than singing. However, just before graduating, she heard of auditions for “American Idol” and went for it. Gaining a spot as a finalist, she won the season and opened the door to her tremendous success since. She has been an ongoing “crossover” star, succeeding in taking a place in pop charts as well as country charts, and pursuing acting when possible, too.
Not one to shy away from challenges, Underwood accepted the role of Maria in a live televised production of “The Sound of Music,” performed in December 2013. She also recorded a studio album of the soundtrack, too. Though not a huge success, Underwood’s performance was cited as remarkably good in spite of technical challenges.
Clearly, she is a champion performer and a talent to count on for almost any sort of entertainment. Don’t miss your chance to see her at one of her many live appearances throughout the summer. Far more than the winner of a television contest, Carrie Underwood is cited by many as the voice of her generation.
