CAASPP Results Show Growth in Academic Achievement

District Met and Exceeded Goals

The South Bay Union School District has shown significant improvement in academic performance, surpassing school-wide targets for the academic year. In 2015, the district set a goal to increase the number of students who would meet statewide standards by 5%. Test results from the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) show that the district, as a whole, has met this objective in mathematics and surpassed it in English language arts. In addition, South Bay students in the seventh and eighth grades scored higher than state and county averages in both mathematics and English language arts.

The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) established effective standards and strategies to help the district attain these goals. A few different initiatives have been implemented under this comprehensive plan to better the education of all students. School libraries across the district received a total of 75,000 new books, widening the range of topics offered for both in-class lesson plans and leisurely reading. Teachers are also benefiting from the LCAP, having access to new and intensive professional development opportunities. This new focus on teachers and technological tools has already brought about a positive impact on the everyday learning environments for students.

The school district will continue to set goals and continuously improve the educational experience for both students and teachers. By looking towards this vision, staff members and families can work together to grow and measure progress in the community.
