After hundreds of hopeful applications were sent in, 287 elementary schools are being honored under the Distinguished Schools program. Bostonia Language Academy, part of the Cajon Valley Union School District, is one of those schools.
The California Distinguished Schools Program alternates between recognizing elementary, middle, and high schools. In 2018, California is recognizing outstanding elementary schools that will hold the Distinguished School title for two years. The eligibility for holding this title includes outstanding student performance, outstanding student performance with high poverty rate, and outstanding improvement across student groups. In these categories, aspects such as performance levels – especially those of English language learners, suspension rates, and participation rates are all assessed.
Bostonia Language Academy applied for the title, met all the requirements, and showed the Distinguished Schools programs that they are worthy of the title. Bostonia has a strong focus on community. Their goal is to prepare students to not only be multilingual and multiliterate, but to also understand the positive atmosphere that a multicultural community creates. Bostonia Language Academy strives to provide a creative learning environment for their students, where individuality is praised and encouraged to be used to gain knowledge in innovative ways.
At Bostonia Language Academy, expectations are high, and students are taught to exhibit positive attitudes, explore their skills and personalities, and become a successful and responsible citizen. This amazing atmosphere provided for students and faculty at Bostonia is no doubt a huge part of the school earning the California Distinguished School title.
