December 01, 2016, Manchester, UK- Applique Music presents ‘Chapter One’ – A body of work which encapsulates the back catalogue of UK producer Mike McGuinness aka Lempo. Renowned for his four-to-the-floor cocktail of hip-hop and swing influenced house music, this release is the result of six years production work.
Featured on stations including BBCR1, Capital FM and Kiss FM ‘Chapter One’ has received support from industry heavyweights such as Pete Tong, Claude Vonstroke and Roger Sanchez. The album features a collection of original work, collaborations and remixes with many of Lempo’s high profile industry colleagues. Every track on ‘Chapter One’ has charted in some capacity, including no less than ten number #1’s across various download stores and two Music Week top 20’s.
The album is released ahead of Lempo finishing an official remix of Snoop Dogg’s ‘Let Me Hit It’ for LA imprint Docka Records, which is due for release in December.
In Lempo’s own words, “Chapter One represents my journey so far, a nod to all the amazing people I’ve been lucky enough to work with and learn from. In June 2010, Lempo’s first EP ‘The Death of Micky Fidget’ was released to mixed-reactions. Later that year he launched his own label Applique Music with his single, ‘The Best Times’ enjoying chart success at #2 on Trackitdown and #21 on Beatport, gaining support from Eric Morillo and Roger Sanchez.
In 2012 Lempo sampled Nancy Sinatra, giving her 1966 signature hit ‘These Boots Are Made for Walking’ a 21st century refresh. The single ‘Jack in Boots’ on Susu Music was featured on the i-Tunes home page upon release, reaching #13 in The Music Week Club Chart (UK) and #36 on Beatport. ‘Boston Boogie’ a collaboration with Toolroom’s Will Gold, would become Lempo’s first #1 when it topped the Trackitdown store later that year.
2013 saw Lempo work with many acclaimed artists including house music legends K-Klass on ‘Brass Attack’ and Mark (The Artful Dodger) Hill on ‘Playboy Bunny’ which featured Hollyoaks actor Ashley Taylor Dawson on vocal, it reached #1 on Juno and #54 on i-Tunes, with support on BBCR1 from Greg James and Nick Grimshaw.
2014 was spent on the Ninjury project (a collaborative alias with Japwow), seeing ’Cowabunga’ reach #1 on Traxsource and Juno, supported by Claude VonStroke at Ultra Music Festival along with BBCR1 plays from Pete Tong and Danny Howard. Roland Clark featured on ‘The Fat Lady’ which also reached #1 on Juno – Roland is an American vocalist, best known for the singles ‘Flowerz’ with Armand van Helden and ‘Star 69’ with Fatboy Slim. The third and final Ninjury track to feature on this release is ‘Wishbone’ which was remixed by Dirtybird’s Will Clarke, achieving another brace of #1’s on Traxsource and Juno.
2015 started with ‘Woo Yeah’ reaching #1 on Juno and #82 on Beatport, supported on Capital FM. In the summer Lempo released his single ‘Making Love’ featuring X-factor finalist Barry James Thomas, which reached #1 on Juno, #20 in the Music Week Club Chart (UK) and #32 on Beatport.
2016 began with the piano-house single ‘Soz’ being selected as Spinnin’ Records first ‘Track Of The Week’ for the new year, it peaked at #2 on Juno and was supported on Kiss FM. Canadian vocalist MC Flipside – the voice for Deadmau5’ ‘Hi Friend’ anthem was next to work with Lempo, on the single ‘Goinout’ which became a Juno #1 and Trackitdown #1, not to mention it’s inclusion in the first-round ballot for the 59th Annual Grammy. Next up was a collaboration with American rapper Princess Superstar, she teamed up with Lempo on the hip-house single ‘Triumph’ which went straight to #1 on both Juno and TrackitDown.
So what’s next for Lempo? He’s just finished an official remix of Snoop Dogg’s ‘Let Me Hit It’ for LA imprint Docka Records, which is due for release in December. He also has a collaboration with Roland Clark, entitled ‘House Doctor’ coming out on Todd Terry’s InHouse Records. Lempo is currently locked away in Oscillate Studios in Cheshire (UK) working on his arsenal for 2017, he was quoted as saying “Chapter One represents my journey so far, a nod to all the amazing people I’ve been lucky enough to work with and learn from. I’m already looking ahead and writing new music to start the next chapter in my story!”.
