 Rising prevalence of chronic diseases:

Counterpart the chronic disease care requires the new system to manage the information between providers and enhance communication with patients. Columbia conducted a study of selected ambulatory care health information technology system which was design to improve chronic disease performance indicators and patient-provider communication. This study was conducted to determine the performance and the satisfaction of the patients as well as physicians over implementation of this portal. Before using this portal it was found that 64.0% of the physician had opinion that this portal would increase their workload, however after the use of portal only 13.0% felt that their workload had actually increase. Before using this portal about 55.0% of the physicians thinks that this portal would increase the quality of care and 33.0% of physicians felt that the quality of care is actually improve.

For diabetes a new tool was implemented i.e diabetes performance reports and dashboard, a portal for secure communication and detecting their blood sugar and blood pressure at home. Information on eight quality indicators was provided by the dashboard. Later the project team surveyed this and found that dashboard increases quality and care about diabetes. And it was found that about 55.0% of physicians printed copies of the patient summary dashboards to give to patients.

According the survey conducted  on physicians it was found that the implementation of the healthcare IT for managing the chronic diseases such as diabetes was really useful and can improve the quality care of the chronic diseases. Hence this market is expected to grow at significantly higher rate.
