Alfacon Solutions Engineers Consider Proper Concrete to Rebar Ratio for Pit Well when Designing Lift Table

When constructing a heavy-duty table lift, Alfacon Solutions’ engineers help to first consider the pit’s overall dimensions. Many applications require that a lift table be installed into a concrete pit. To start, the width and length, a 1″ gap around the perimeter of the platform, must remain; between the edge of the deck and edge of the pit wall must remain as well.

The overall pit width and length will be the platform width + 2″ and the platform length + 2″. This is for a lift table with no hinged bridges. Once the manually operated hinged bridge is added, an additional inch of clearance between the edge of the platform and the edge of the pit wall for each hinged bridge are required allowing space for the hinge spools and other elements. This additional gap requirement increases when utilizing a hydraulic hinged bridge. This space allows the cylinder to extend the bridge.

The next consideration is the depth of the pit. Alfacon recommends cutting the pit to the fully lowered height of the lift table, plus an additional 1/4″, to ensure that the table does not stick out of the pit. It is much better to shim a table slightly to bring it up to floor height then it is to try to rework a pit because the equipment has a slight projection.
