In the book, ‘Fifteen words’, Author Monika Jephcott Thomas narrates a story of two German lovers, Max and Erika. The two newly qualified Doctors struggled to harmonise their political and religious differences in Nazi Germany until the relationship got deteriorated by the outbreak of World War II in 1930 which led to their separation for four years.

While both lovers were separated, Max who was enduring the brutality at a Siberian POW camp tried so hard to express all this thoughts in the letters he wrote to Erika his lover as they were allowed to write only fifteen words at the time. Erika, on the other hand was forced to raise their daughter alone while watching her Country being destroyed. Both of them had their faiths tested during this trying times.

When the couple reunited eventually, a lot has changed. Max must bond with his daughter whom he never met. He had to be the man Erika new and loved. They both had to make things work out for the best. The Novel brings a nostalgic feeling of the political unrest amidst religion and fascism in Nazi Germany at the time exploring the beautiful or destructive effect that just a few words can have.

About the Author

Monika Jephcott Thomas was born in Dortmund Mengede, north-west Germany but moved to the UK in 1996 where she built her career and passion. She was in Education for thirty years and became a Councillor and Psychotherapist after another twenty years of experience.  In 1998, she and her partner Jeff established the Academy of Play & Child Psychotherapy (APAC) which has become internationally recognized. She later became the President of Play Therapy International in 2002.

Her professional background has given her insight into the effect of traumatic events not only on those directly experiencing them but also on their families and the generational impact.
